THINK YOU
BELONG HERE?
“You found the ship. That’s a promising start. Come aboard. We’ll find out whether you can land on it later.”
Col Pete Donnelly
WELCOME ABOARD, FUTURE WET BOY.
Congratulations. Through excellent judgment, questionable navigation, or a link someone probably should have kept to themselves, you’ve found yourself on the verge of joining the greatest air wing in the history of the United States military.
Welcome to Carrier Air Wing Zero. CVW-0. The Wet Boys.
Around here, we take care of our people, take pride in our flying, and take every opportunity to give each other a hard time. You’ll find pilots who will help you nail your first carrier landing, celebrate when you finally stick it, and remember what you said on the radio during the previous six attempts.
That’s life aboard CVN-00. Every sortie has the potential to become a story. Every debrief risks producing a new piece of air wing lore. A perfectly reasonable training exercise can end with a callsign, a running joke, and three witnesses who remember the incident very differently. Stay long enough and you’ll start recognizing the references. Before long, you’ll be responsible for a few.
The camaraderie comes from showing up for each other. We learn together, fly together, and make room for people who want to be part of the crew. Bring your questions. Bring your enthusiasm. Bring whatever flying experience you have. There’s a place here for someone who’s ready to learn, contribute, and enjoy the ride.
You should be excited. Ahead of you are good flights, spectacular mistakes, hard-earned victories, and friends who will make all three worth coming back for. You’re about to have a whole air wing in your corner, and occasionally on your case.
Come aboard. Meet the crew. Let’s give the ready room something to talk about.
FOUR STEPS
Join the Discord
Join the Discord and post an introduction in the "Onboarding Chat" room with your name, your time zone, and the platforms you like to fly (or want to fly).
Get your roster number
A squadron commander will welcome you and move your permissions to the VT-404 training squadron, which opens up the full Discord. You'll be added to the Students In Training board and assigned a roster number. That roster number is your name until your official Naming Night.
Download your livery
Download the VT-404 livery for the platform you fly. The Missing Junk livery is required: you'll rock it until you've had your Naming Night and been transferred to your unit.
Go to Downloads →Get into a flight
Log 5 total flights with the boys to qualify for a Naming Night. Once your fifth flight is complete, you can put in your official request for a naming.
STUDENTS IN TRAINING
The only requirement is simple: show up, fly, and have fun. Don't be afraid to suck at first, every pilot in this wing has been there, and the ones who stuck around are better for it. No ego. No gatekeeping.
